Four Medals for Greece at the Balkan Endurance Championship!

A new and brilliant chapter in the history of Greek Endurance was written on Saturday, September 19, in Buftea, Romania, as Greece achieved a historic first by winning four medals at a Balkan Championship — two in team competitions and two in individual events.

This achievement provides strong confirmation of the excellent work carried out in recent years by those involved in Endurance and by the Federation, while also highlighting the sport’s dynamic return to international competitions and podium finishes. Greece thereby secured second place among the Balkan countries in terms of the number of medals won.

For the second consecutive year, the Greek team won the silver medal in the Juniors & Young Riders team competition, thanks to Angeliki Mermigkidi with Kami, Areti Patsioura with Salamon Ektoras R, Emma Despoina Giakoumakis with Attilas, Georgia Mamai with Farah, and Martha Peridi with Shakira.

The Bulgarian team claimed the gold medal and the title of Balkan Champions.

In the 100 km individual competition for Juniors & Young Riders, Angeliki Mermigkidi and Kami delivered an exceptional performance, earning the title of Balkan Vice-Champions and the silver medal.

The Greek pair completed the course in 05:33:30, missing out on the gold medal by the narrowest of margins — just one tenth of a second behind the winner, Radost Bakalova of Bulgaria.

In the Senior category, Aliki Konstantinidou and Evridika won the bronze medal in the 120 km individual competition, securing Greece’s first historic individual medal at a Balkan Championship.

The Greek rider and Evridika completed the challenging course in 06:45:15, finishing third among 26 competitors and deservedly taking their place on the podium.

The Greek success was completed with another silver medal, this time in the Senior team competition, thanks to the performances of Katerina Mialiaki with Dias, Giota Chrysanthakopoulou with Helena, Alexandros Alafragkis with Zafer HM, Aliki Konstantinidou, and Vasiliki Violeta Touli with Hakim. The Croatian team took first place and the gold medal.

The achievements of the Greek delegation did not stop at the Balkan Championship.

In the CEIYJ1 100 international competition for Juniors & Young Riders, held on Sunday, Natalia Giatra and Fares added another silver medal to Greece’s medal tally, completing the 100 km course in 07:10:53.
